Crown Drum Corps

About

Crown, is a world-renowned, award-winning drum and bugle corps comprised of 165 performers, ages 16-21, that are selected from a rigorous audition process that spans the course of several months. Each season, Crown creates an 11-minute field show designed and taught by experts in the marching performing arts from all around the world. After completing the show, Crown embarks on an extensive 2-month long nationwide tour captivating the hearts of hundreds of thousands all while competing with other drum and bugle corps at the highest level.

What is Drum Corps?

Drum corps is a dynamic and competitive performing art that combines live music, choreographed movement, and visual storytelling into a high-energy field production. Featuring talented young adults ages 16-21, drum corps’ consist of brass musicians, percussionists, and color guard performers. Each summer, these groups dedicate themselves to rigorous rehearsals and embark on a 2-month national tour, competing against one another at multiple events across the country. The activity offers not only exceptional performance opportunities and music education but also cultivates lifelong connections, discipline, accountability, personal growth, and leadership skills. Drum Corps International (DCI) is the governing circuit for the activity.

 

What Does Being in Crown Entail?

Carolina Crown is one of the premier marching ensembles in the world, renowned for its multiple awards in brass, color guard, visual, and percussion performance. A consistent DCI finalist for the past 20 years, Crown most recently earned the title of World Champion in 2013.

Members of Crown exhibit exceptional musicianship and movement skills, paired with a passionate commitment to learning. The audition process is highly competitive, featuring rigorous physical and musical assessments during monthly audition camps. Those who earn a spot in the corps participate in an intensive, month-long Spring Training before embarking on the demanding two-month national summer tour - traveling, rehearsing, performing, and competing at the highest level.
