Longtime Supporter Steve Miller Joins Crown Board
Carolina Crown board president Kevin Smith is proud to announce the appointment of current advisory council member Steve Miller to the Crown Board of Directors. Steve is a native of York, SC and graduated from York High School where he performed as lead and solo trumpet with the marching, concert and jazz bands.
He attended Mars Hill University where he participated in the marching, concert and jazz programs as a trumpet major and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Education. While at Mars Hill, he was inducted into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and served in several leadership positions, including two terms as president of the Pi Rho chapter.
Steve served as the assistant band director with Madison-Mayodan City Schools where he taught sixth through eighth grade band, high school jazz band, high school chorus, and assisted with the marching and concert band. In addition to public school, he has taught continuing education courses through the Rockingham County Community College system. During his teaching career, he received a Master of Education Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also served twelve years as a church music director.
Following his tenure as a teacher, Steve entered the field of law enforcement, serving as a North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer, prior to receiving his appointment as a United States Probation Officer. During his twenty-five year career, he served as a firearms instructor, received numerous performance awards and graduated from the prestigious Leadership Development Program of the Federal Judicial Center, Washington, D.C. He retired from service as a Supervisory United States Probation Officer in 2008 and is currently self-employed as a federal criminal defense consultant and private investigator.
Steve currently resides in Greensboro, NC and serves with Global Ministries and on the Security Team, and performs with the choral ensemble at his church. He also performs with the Greensboro Choral Society. While he has never marched in a drum corps, he has closely followed the activity since the early 1970s. Steve has previously served as a volunteer and on the advisory council for Carolina Crown. In addition to Carolina Crown, Steve also serves on the board of directors of the North Carolina Brass Band, a professional ensemble based in the Triad region of the state.
