Drum Majors Log, day 18 of Spring Training, and the percussion section was given the morning off to get some well deserved rest. Even the Drum Majors had some free time. And believe me, we needed it!
The battery has spent the better part of the last four days working on their staging for the percussion feature, so during the afternoon block today, they continued to make some final adjustments. The Crown weapon line joined them as they made some changes to their sabre choreography so it works with the drill.
The brass spent one final morning and afternoon session with Music Director and Arranger, Michael Klesch, before he headed back home. Michael continued to tweak specific sections of the opener and second production, to insure that everyone is playing in time. There are some crazy-fast drill moves throughout these two sections of the show, so playing together challenges the performers to achieve the highest levels of focus and concentration.
The entire corps assembled at the Gardner-Webb stadium for our typical Tuesday night ensemble rehearsal. After reviewing specific areas in each of the opener, second production, and ballad, we did a run-through of the entire show, through the end of the ballad, for only the second time since learning everything.
It's exciting to see us work on longer sections of the show. We're seeing a lot more ideas come together to be cleaned with the entire guard and battery. With only eleven more days until the preview show on June 15th, we are definitely on schedule to be ready for a great first performance.
