Guard Audition Requirements

All new Color Guard candidates are required to submit a 2010 Registration Form (Complete here).  Along with your registration, please submit the $100 registration fee (we accept all major credit cards or download the form and send with check or money order) and mail to:

Carolina Crown
attn: 2010 Color Guard Auditions
227A Main Street
Fort Mill, SC 29715

Once we have received your  registration and fee you will be allowed to attend camps and audition for the corps. Any video audition that has been submitted (pre-approved with staff – please see below) will then be viewed at that time.   No video audition will be reviewed until we have received the registration and fee.  The $100 is waived for all returning members, however, we require returning members to fill out a new 2010 form so that we have your most current information on file.

*If you require a PDF reader program, visit adobe.com to download the most current reader for your computer.

THE AUDITION PROCESS

A routine does not need to be prepared for your audition.  Your skills will be evaluated while learning the technique program throughout the weekend. Your training will involve learning technique in both movement and equipment and will be supplemented with choreography so that you may demonstrate how well you perform those skills combined. It is important that ALL members have a strong base of movement and flag technique.  If you spin FLAG ONLY you will not be asked to spin a weapon. We have had many individuals in the past who only spin flag. If you spin rifle or sabre you will be asked to audition on both weapons.

It is a good idea to take dance classes over the winter months to prepare for the upcoming season. Although any style is acceptable, a class that will help you develop a stronger technique base is preferred (i.e. ballet barre class).

Video Tape Auditions:  Video Auditions are for extenuating circumstances only.  If you are unable to attend the camps due to extreme circumstances (coming from another country, major school commitments, etc.) you will need to contact the Crown office (info@carolinacrown.org) or Adam Sage (adam@carolinacrown.org) and discuss your conflict.  After you have been approved you may send your audition video ALONG with you registration fee ($100.00) to:

Carolina Crown
Attn: 2010 Color Guard Audition Video
227A Main Street
Fort Mill, SC 29715

The video should contain:  an introduction of yourself that includes your past experience, examples of your movement and dance ability (technique and choreography), and your flag and weapon skills (technique and choreography). Your video has no time limit, but be certain that you are performing at your highest ability (include spins, tosses, and choreography).  Keep in mind that you need to demonstrate an ability to move and spin at the same time.
Please remember to bring the following items for your audition:  spinning gloves; rifle and/or sabre if you own one; and dancewear (spandex and/or form fitting – not too long or baggy).

*Once we receive your 2010 Registration Form and your $100 Fee you will be allowed to audition for the corps.
