Dear Hall of Fame Committee Members:
Carolina Crown’s storied history spans 30 years since the organization’s founding in 1988 as the Charlotte Drum Corps Association. Only a few individuals from the CDCA days have continually contributed their time, talents and possessions to lead and sustain our organization which has produced a two-time World Champion and positively influenced thousands of young people, their parents, friends, fans and the performing arts education community. Among these long-time supporters, Steve Tant’s impact on the success of the organization has truly been exceptional, and I am pleased to provide this nomination of Steve Tant to the Carolina Crown Hall of Fame class of 2017.
Steve has played a significant role in many aspects of the organization over the past 30 years including perpetual service as a member of the Board of Directors where he has served terms as both vice-president and treasurer of the organization. Steve’s involvement with NightBEAT over the past quarter century has helped it become one of the most successful drum corps events in the activity, and an event that has generated millions of dollars over the years to fuel Carolina Crown’s growth. In short, NightBEAT would not be what it is it is today without Steve's guidance. Steve Tant has served as NightBEAT chairman, operations manager, contest director, and general all around "go to" person. In fact, Steve has generously contributed his professional skills by producing and installing ALL NightBEAT signage over the decades, primarily as in-kind donations. This alone has saved the organization thousands upon thousands of dollars.
Steve has also been responsible from the beginning for the Crown fleet vehicle graphics. From our very first 24-foot box truck in 1990 to our fleet as it stands today, Steve’s unique talent as a graphics creator has given Crown’s vehicles, as well as our office signage, an enduring image that is envied in the activity.
While Steve’s NightBEAT leadership, signage and vehicle graphics contributions to Crown are legendary and profound, his impact doesn’t end there. Steve has always brought fresh ideas to the table as a board member and is known for always thinking outside the box. One of his greatest ideas was CrownTickets, which grew from Steve’s brainchild to generate millions of dollars in cash flow for the organization over the past decade. Steve constantly brings new souvenir product ideas, which have also generated countless thousands of dollars for Crown over the years. Steve’s souvenir involvement doesn’t end with ideas either; he would either produce them himself or find the best outlet to have them made.
I have had the immense pleasure of working side-by-side with Steve at Carolina Crown for almost 30 years. He has done more for our organization than I can possibly share in a two-page nomination letter. It is time for Carolina Crown to honor the leadership, dedication and generosity of Steve Tant with a place in our hall of fame.
