Send The CrownPERCUSSION Ensemble To PASIC 2016
The Carolina Crown organization is excited to announce that the CrownPERCUSSION ensemble has been invited to perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
This is the first time Crown has been invited to the PAS convention, which will be held the weekend of November 9-12, 2017, at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis has been the home for the Percussive Arts Society offices since 2007 and its museum and library since 2009.
Crown will perform on Saturday, November 12 from 4:00pm to 4:50pm CST in the Sagamore Ballroom. Leading the performance will be Crown Percussion Director Thom Hannum and Front Ensemble Director/Arranger Jim Ancona, along with the Caption Supervisor, Travis Peterman, and the Crown Percussion staff.
An expected crowd of 2,500 will watch as both the Crown Battery and Front Ensemble perform excerpts of the 2016 show "Relentless". The session, entitled Behind The Music, will feature the production number Roxanne.
"Many of our percussionists are music education and performance majors," said Carolina Crown Executive Director, Jim Coates, "and this performance will give us the opportunity to showcase our overall commitment to music."
Six front ensemble and four battery members aged out this past summer, performing in their last show as Crown members back in August at Drum Corps International Championships. This trip to PASIC16 will give them an additional chance to reunite with friends and perform the music of "Relentless" one last time.
Only a handful of DCI percussion sections have been invited to perform at PASIC. The Santa Clara Vanguard percussion section performed in 2015. Other groups including the Glassmen (2007), Bluecoats (2007), Phantom Regiment (2008) and Cadets (2010) have also taken part in recent years. The first ever full drum corps percussion section performance was given by the Blue Devils at the 1980 convention.
Now in its 55th year, the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is a non-profit, music-service organization whose mission is to promote percussion education, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world. Today, the society is over 6,000 subscribers/members strong, with 50 chapters located across the United States and an additional 28 chapters outside the U.S.
Each year PAS hosts the largest percussion convention in the world, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), featuring the top names in drumming and percussion. In addition, domestic and international PAS chapters host Days of Percussion and other clinics in their regions throughout the year.
PASIC just celebrated its 40th Anniversary at PASIC15 in San Antonio, TX. Now in its 41st year, the convention continues to deliver amazing performances and clinics from musicians all over the world, all while showcasing the latest and greatest form the percussion products industry. Known as “the world’s premier drum and percussion festival,” PASIC16 will feature over 120 concerts, clinics, master classes, labs, workshops, panels and presentations given by the finest artists from all over the world.
To endeavor on this journey back to Indy and to PASIC16, Carolina Crown will need to raise $10,000. This will cover the cost of hotels, food and transportation to take the 32 Crown percussionists to Indianapolis. This is where we need the help of our fans, friends, family members and supporters.
A donation to the Send Crown to PASIC Campaign will go directly toward helping us make this important trip. To be invited to perform at the Percussive Arts Society Convention is a tremendous honor for Carolina Crown. We need you to help us make this trip possible.
All donors that help send Crown to PASIC16 will receive a Crown 2016 Show Wristband. There are thank you gifts available at additional giving levels including Relentless koozies, hats, tour tees and mugs. Please consider making a donation today and helping to Send Crown Back To Indy.
