Fans Watch Seven Corps at Newly Built River Bluff High School
Drum and bugle corps returned to the Midlands of South Carolina on Friday, July 8, 2016 at River Bluff High School of Lexington. Performing corps included the 10-time DCI World Champion The Cadets of Allentown, PA, the 2016 World Champion Bluecoats of Canton, OH, Boston Crusaders of Boston, MA, Crossmen of San Antonio, TX, Jersey Surf of Camden County, NJ, Spirit of Atlanta of Atlanta, GA, and Legends of Kalamazoo, MI.
Even though the heat peeked in Lexington, SC, on the Friday of CrownBEAT, fans filled the stands at River Bluff High School. Most competing corps arrived in the area on Thursday, July 7, after driving from shows held in the north east.
The Bluecoats of Canton, OH, rehearsed on Friday at the show site, taking frequent breaks from the sun and heat. The other competing corps all rehearsed at other schools across the region. By the start of the show, temperatures had cooled and the fans were treated to a competition of energized corps.
CrownCARES, an outreach arm of the Carolina Crown Organization, partnered with Greater Sole Purpose of Atlanta, GA, to provide 100 pairs of shoes to needy kids from the Columbia and Lexington areas.
